AcuDart tests have a sensitivity greater than 90%, making them more accurate than any other DTC test or tests from commercial laboratories such as LabCorp or Quest. The AcuDart Babesiosis Screening Test is the most comprehensive and accurate test available for Babesiosis because it detects antibodies to the following two Babesia species: B. microti and B. duncani. Most Babesia tests look for only one species, and therefore miss many positive cases.

Babesiosis is a disease caused by microscopic parasites that infect red blood cells, and is spread by the bite of an infected blacklegged tick. The diseases is present in all 50 states. It causes flu-like symptoms and can lead to severe illness.

Collecting Your Blood

All we need are a few drops.

A few drops of blood is all we need to test for eight species of Lyme causing borrelia. Red blood cells are separated without a centrifuge, enabling the laboratory to perform tests on dry blood. The test results have been cross-validated against standard finger prick and venous draws.

Collecting Your Blood

  • All we need are a few drops to test for any tick-borne disease.

  • Red blood cells are separated without a centrifuge, enabling the laboratory to perform tests on dry blood.

  • Test results have been cross-validated against standard finger prick and venous draws.

AcuDart tests detect antibodies to multiple species of Babesia.

B. microti

B. microti is the main cause of  babesiosis, a malaria-like disease which also causes fever and hemolysis.

B. duncani

Human babesiosis caused by B. duncani has been associated with high parasite burden, severe pathology and death in multiple cases.

What does the AcuDart Babesiosis test detect, and how reliable is it?

The AcuDart Babesiosis Screening Test detects antibodies to multiple species of Babesia, a parasite responsible for Babesiosis, a tick-borne disease affecting red blood cells. Using advanced recombinant protein technology, this test ensures high sensitivity and specificity, delivering reliable and accurate results.

AcuDart tests are among the most accurate available, with a sensitivity of just above 90%, outperforming traditional testing methods like PCR and the ELISA/Western blot (57.6%) protocol recommended by the CDC.

Does insurance cover AcuDart Babesiosis testing?

Unfortunately, insurance does not cover the cost of the AcuDart Babesiosis Screening Testing, and FSA/HSA payments are not accepted. However, AcuDart strives to make testing affordable, offering pricing that is often lower than the costs associated with traditional healthcare visits.

Who should consider AcuDart Babesiosis testing, and can it detect co-infections?

This test is recommended for individuals who have been in tick-prone areas, experienced tick bites, or exhibit symptoms such as fever, chills, fatigue, and anemia commonly associated with Babesiosis.

While this test focuses on Babesiosis, AcuDart offers a Disease Screening Test Panel designed to detect multiple co-infections from a single sample.

What sample is required for AcuDart Babesiosis testing, and how do I collect it properly?

A small blood sample, collected via a simple finger prick, is required for the Babesiosis test. The test kit includes detailed instructions and all necessary tools to ensure a safe and easy at-home sample collection process.

What do the results mean, and what should I do if I test positive for Babesiosis?

- Positive Result: Indicates the presence of antibodies to Babesia, suggesting past or current exposure. Consult a healthcare provider for further evaluation and potential treatment options.

- Negative Result: Suggests no detectable antibodies at the time of testing. However, early-stage infections or low antibody levels may require follow-up testing if symptoms persist.

How long does it take to get results?

Results are typically available within 3-5 business days (digitally) after the lab receives your sample. You will be notified via a secure portal when your results are ready to view.
